FLY FISHING COURSES & TUITION

Throughout the year Michael Evans and other qualified instructors offer a variety of fly fishing courses and tuition options.

Group days.
We run a variety of Corporate entertainment as well as private group days for parties as small as 2 or 3 right up to 30 people. Fly fishing is fun, un-demanding and a great day out, excellent for networking or reward and much more controlled than say a day at the races. No experience needed, we provide everything individually tailored to your requirements. Please ring to discuss your day and get a quotation.

1 to 1 tuition 
£60/hr - This is an expensive way to learn. Use it for a specific casting or fishing problem or a brush up on or before a day or trip.  You will not normally get to actually fish during a one to one lesson unless you specifically request it and purchase a permit separately.

Basic one day courses
Usually at Little Saxbys Farm. Instructor/pupil ratio 1:5 or less. £130 includes all instruction, fishing permit, tackle and refreshments. Designed for novices or anyone who has never had any formal tuition, they cover everything from safety to tackle, skills and tactics and give essential grounding on which further skills can be developed. Run at a time of year when conditions should be ideal, we try to ensure that everyone catches a fish or two, all in a fun, controlled and undemanding environment.

Improver one day courses
Usually at Weir Wood. Instructor/pupil ratio 1:10 or less. Minimum 4 people  £130 includes all instruction, fishing permit, shared boat, tackle and refreshments. On this course the emphasis is more on you fishing with an instructor reminding you of the basics, then teaching new skills to take you up to the next level. Note: It is a mistake to start on one of these if you have never had any formal tuition.

Casting courses
Instructor/pupil ratio 1:5 or less. Minimum 4 people. Usually 2 x 2hr teaching sessions morning & afternoon with time to relax or practice over lunch.  £90. Includes all instruction, fishing tackle should you need it and refreshments. These are exactly what they say they are. Purely teaching casting techniques with no attempt to catch fish at all.

Guided fishing
Charged at the individual guide’s day rate quoted. Fishing permit and or boat hire not included. Guides are generally excellent fishers but they are not, unless stated, qualified instructors. Their skill is to know where the fish are and what are the best tactics are for the conditions. You should not expect them to teach you to cast.

Junior Courses
Usually at Little Saxbys Farm. Instructor/pupil ratio 1:4. Minimum 3. We run 4 hr courses for 12 & unders £65 and 6 hr courses for 13 and overs £130. With under 12s we require a parent or guardian to assist but over 13s merely to observe.  Sorry mums and/or Dads, you do not get to fish as well!  It is their day and the emphasis is on them. They will have fun, learn and, above all, catch a fish. Only run when the weather is nice and the fishing is good, so we may have to change the day at short notice.

How old? A lot of parents ask “At what age should they start fishing?” It does depend on the child, but we suggest for coarse fishing 6 or over and fly fishing 8 or over taking into account their general strength, ability to concentrate and enthusiasm.

Salmon fishing courses and international trips
