A quiet week for fishing on the lake however Ed Carter and his son Ben reported a brace each caught by boat just off the damn wall and Chris Johnston also managed to take two good sized trout home on Thursday.

Fishing report

Those who have braved the recent challenging fishing conditions have been rewarded with some quality catches in the quieter spells on the lake, This week is looking much more promising out there on the lake with much calmer conditions and cooler water (8 degrees today) for anglers to enjoy.

17th May

Fishing report

In spite of a difficult week for anglers thanks to the cold wind putting the fish down in the water, Sunday brought a return to form for the lake with some spectacular fishing, especially on the north bank...

'Two trout caught on Sunday afternoon one on a suspender buzzer the other on a black superglue buzzer both size 12's from dam corner on the north bank. One weighing 3lb 12oz the other 3lb 7ozs! and returned 5 others the smallest about 2 and a half pounds. A great afternoon!'
Marc Harvey

The boats are now  availible on a rowed basis but please do book in advance for this to be sure that we can accomodate you! Please also make a note that from the 30th May we will be having an 'End of fly only season sale' with 40% off throughout the store for one week only...

FISHING REPORT 14th April 2011

The astonishingly mild weather continues with the water temperature in the lake sitting at the ideal 10 degrees (50f) held back by cold nights. Perfect conditions for taking trout off the top. As I write a perfect calm hangs over the lake and trout can be seen rising almost all over it - a wonderful sight!

On Tuesday Ron Ransley and his Boxalls group tried Weir Wood for the first time. Three total beginners and most of the rest of the team of 16 never having fished a big water like this or from a boat, returned a total of 115 fish averaging over 7 fish per rod! Several commented that it was the best days fishing they had ever had.

Reports from our other anglers recently have included comments such as

‘Superb fishing, Average weights between 1.5 and 6lb. Best fish returned estimated at over 7lbs.
’ D F Newman

Brilliant, My arm aches!’ J Betts

What can I say?’ G wells (Following his 33 fish day on the South bank)

Lets hope this perfect weather continues.

4th April

Superb weekend of fishing!

‘’Had an afternoon session on the North Shore yesterday; 2 fish kept – 3lbs 7oz and 2lbs 5oz and 4 fish returned. The biggest put up quite a scrap, fin perfect with a tail like a spade – a superb overwintered fish! ‘’

...A fantastic bit of feedback is always a good thing to hear on a cloudy Monday at Weir Wood. The lake does seem to be keeping our anglers happy with a change in the weather really moving the fish about and providing plenty of sport for those fishing last week with the largest catch occurring on Saturday with a lovely 5.5lb rainbow caught on an Olive Buzzer off the bank at Willow point. More spots along the South bank have now been cleared to make things easier for you all.

23rd March

Fantastic first week......Where are you?

Throughout this stunning spell of fair weather Weirwood continues to fish spectacularly  and consistently from one day to the next with  every catch return being noteworthy and each fisherman leaving  with a sizable dinner and a smile....and that’s  got little to do with the girls here in the office although our cooking skills have been appreciated by those who have stopped in for breakfast or lunch...On Monday the  average catch per angler stood at an astonishing 14.5 including a 7lb trout for David Newman.  Today the water temperature stands at 7 degrees centigrade, the trout are rising and the Osprey has been spotted by our baliff Ben, who is quickly becoming an expert on birdlife...

One question that keeps being asked by all the fisherman and echoed by ourselves here in the Fishing lodge is ‘where are you all?’ Although it is early days  we are fully open and with the lake fishing as well as it has been you are assured of a brilliant days fishing...we have many plans for Weirwood over the new few months so come now and enjoy it while it is still one of the South East’s best kept secrets!

4th February 2011

The lake is now full and the very coloured water which has plagued our last two pike days is starting to clear.

Pike - Six boats out on the 22nd January managed two runs to dead baits but nothing stuck and it was really far too coloured to do much good with the spinners and plugs.

Just two more pike open days to go before the end of the season, 18th & 19th February so if you want a last chance in what should be the best conditions so far either book on line here or ring the Lodge on 01342 820650.

The 2011 pike fishing will start on October 1st. Applications and subs for the pike syndicate will be requested in August for payment in September.

Carp - Andy Burt head of our carp syndicate is going out again today after a month or so lay off - always a good sign that conditions are improving for the carp as well! We have had lots of interest for our 2011 syndicate and will be limiting the number of members to 20 so if you want to join please let us know or pop in. Applications and subs by the end of May please.

Trout - Fly fishing for trout opens on March 15th 2011. You can now book boats or bank tickets online by going to "booking fishing" and selecting the date required or ring the Lodge on 01342 820650.
