What to bring
Safety first: Don't forget glasses to protect your eyes, a lifejacket, and warm waterproof clothing.
EA License: As well as your Permit and some identification, you need an EA license to fish at Weir Wood. To buy a license click here
Tackle: The tackle you will need will depend upon the species you are targeting and whether you will be ledgering, float fishing or spinning. Please do not hesitate to ring or call into the fishing lodge (01342 820650) if you have any queries or have forgotten something. We have a range of coarse fishing tackle and bait available during the coarse fishing period.
Weir Wood is a fairly shallow lake (maximum depth 39ft) so bank fishers will do best, particularly when the levels are down, if they can cast a fair distance off shore. We also have a population of crayfish so there are points for keeping your baits off the bottom!
Please note that with all Coarse fishing and any method trout permits you may use a maximum of two rods at any one time. No lure, bait or spinner more than 2 inches in length (except on pike permits) including the hook is permitted. You may use both artificial and natural baits and ground baits but not live or dead fish. No part of the line may be of a breaking strain less than 4lbs and no hooks may be larger than size 6. All hooks must have the barbs squashed down or be barbless. Fish finders are not permitted.
Pike anglers may use two rods at any one time. Fly fishing and spinning with artificial lures and baits as well as float fishing or ledgering with natural dead baits is permitted. Live-baits are not permitted. No part of the line may be of a breaking strain less than 10lbs a wire trace of at least 10 inches must be used and no hooks may be smaller than size 8.
